Wednesday November 2 we welcomed Julia Ávila Franzoni and Pablo de Soto to Umeå School of Architecture for a Lecture with the title "Defending the Urban Commons in Brazil - the cases of #ResisteIzidora, Belo Horizonte & Vila Autódromo, Rio de Janeiro". The lecture took place at 16.00 in the Theatre. You can watch it here. 

Julia Ávila Franzoni is an associate lawyer and a pro bono member of the Executive Council of Terra de Direitos (TDD), a Human Rights Organization, and a senior researcher in the Indisciplinar Research Group of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. She is also a doctoral candidate in Law at UFMG and a Visiting Lecturer at Westminster University. Besides that, she is an activist, peoples' lawyer and collaborator at Resiste Izidora network. Izidora's case was selected to be in the International Tribunal on Eviction, in Quito.

Pablo de Soto is an architect, activist and researcher. He has worked extensively in the appropriation of the mapmaking by social movements, being the coauthor of the Critical Cartography of the Straits of Gibraltar, the Gaza cartography workshop or the Mapping the Commons project achieved in Athens, Istanbul and São Paulo. Recently he co-developed the #DroneHackademy to support a local community resisting eviction in the context of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. He holds a Diploma Master Degree in Architecture by KTH and a PhD in Communication and Culture by UFRJ. In the 2000s he was cofounder of hackitectura collective.
