Research activities at Umeå School of
Architecture have various nature and span across a the complex
discipline of architecture. Such activities share a scope:
expanding the practice of architecture beyond its more traditional
academic boundaries, towards experimenting with its relevance and
ability to intervene in tackling complex societal challenges.
Research mainly is carried out through education
and through design. The activities that are led to cultivate a rich
research environment, act on different levels: students are
educated towards design research along their bachelor, master and
postgraduate career. We participate to research endeavours with
different kind of national and international actors: academia,
institutes, private, public and non-governmental sector.
We collaborate with national and international
research network, such as the ARENA network and the Swedish
Research School ResArc.
Our projects cover the span that goes from applied
research to basic research and their duration and depths varies
according to their goals and deliverables.
